Sunriver Style Trends: Top Kitchen Update Trends of 2018

Kitchen Updates in Sunriver and Central Oregon

Create some space and increase organization. That is on the top of the list of 2018 kitchen updates.

According to experts at Houzz and their 2018 Kitchen Trends Study, creating space for adequate storage is one of the most important features in updating kitchens as well as the needs for space to work, play, live, entertain and clean. In locations, such as Sunriver, homeowners are gravitating toward kitchens with open space that blend with living areas as well as upgrades such as pull-out waste and recycling baskets, baking sheet organizers, drawer organizers, revolving corner trays and pull-out trays and shelves.

Countertops are also at the top of the upgrade list. Although easy-to-clean and durable granite countertops are still highly sought after, engineered quartz countertops are gaining popularity. Flooring materials that top today's list include engineered wood and laminate in addition to hardwood flooring.

The color trend of kitchens is shifting from warm woods to bright and light white. In Sunriver, many homeowners blend the two for a fresh and modern take on mountain and forest living. Don't forget about cabinet doors. Shaker-style cabinets are most popular as well as flat-panel and raised-panel doors.

Kitchen tech is also on the rise. Wireless and voice-activated appliances and devices such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home are being brought into the home.

Wonderland Express is a Wonderful Celebration

2017 Wonderland Express Volunteers

Each year, a special holiday party is held. The guests are families in need who have been identified by family advocates in Central Oregon. On Saturday, Dec. 10, 2017 several Sunriver Realty brokers volunteered for the 16th annual event.

The event offers a buffet holiday meal, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, family photos, toys, hats and scarves for children, hay rides, visits with the Sunriver Fire and Police departments and an ice cream sundae bar. Parents and guardians also receive gift cards for groceries. The event is also an opportunity for families to set aside their troubles and concerns and share the wonder and magic of the season with one another.

If you would like to learn more about Wonderland Express, call 541-593-4405 or visit wonderlandexpress.org.

Wonderland Express is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax deductible (tax id # 20-0036466) with 100% of the funds raised going directly toward the event.

Pets on the Move

Moving With Pets - Sunriver Realty

Pets are known to be loyal. That trait makes them particularly sensitive to changes in their environment. A move into a new home can be particularly distressing to a pet. Here are some tips on how to help your furry friend adapt to your family's new home:

1. Update your pet's tag with your
new address.
Make sure your pet's collar is sturdy and correctly sized. The tag should also include your mobile number and e-mail address so that you can be reached during the move.

2. Request veterinary records.
Ask your current vet to send your pet's medical history directly to the new vet. Have their contact information handy in case of emergency or if the new vet has questions.

3. Keep a week's worth of food and medication with you.
You may want to ask for an extra prescription refill before you move. Take the same precaution with special therapeutic foods.

4. Seclude them from chaos.
Keep your pet in a safe, quiet room on moving day with a clear sign posted on the door. There are many light, collapsible travel crates available, but ensure it is well ventilated and sturdy enough for stress-chewers. Also, introduce your pet to the crate before the trip.

5. Prepare a pet first aid kit.
Include your vet's phone number, gauze to wrap wounds or to muzzle your pet, adhesive tape for use on bandages, nonstick bandages, towels, cotton swabs, antibiotic ointment (without pain relief medication), and 3% hydrogen peroxide.

6. Play it safe in the car.
Use a crate or carrier in the car, securing it with a seat belt. Never leave your pet in the bed of a truck, the storage area of a moving van, or alone in a parked vehicle. If you're staying overnight, find pet-friendly lodging beforehand and have kitty litter or plastic bags on hand.

7. Get ready for takeoff.
When traveling by air, check with the airline about pet requirements or restrictions and whether you must purchase a special airline crate that fits under the seat in front of you.

8. Prep your new home.
Set up one room with everything your pet will need: food, water, medications, bed, litter box, scratch post, and toys. Keep windows and doors closed when your pet is unsupervised, and beware of small spaces where nervous pets may hide. If your old home is nearby, give the new home owners or neighbors your phone number and a photo of your pet, in case your pet tries to return.

Culture: The Bend and Sunriver Way of Life

Central Oregon Lifestyle favorites include craft brews and outdoor recreation

The predominate culture in Bend and Sunriver Oregon centers around our love for outdoor recreation and craft beer.

Why recreation? The Cascade Mountains, lakes with its usual sunny weather offers an endless playground for outdoor enthusiast. Recreational activities include downhill skiing at Mt bachelor, cross country skiing, mountain biking, cyclocross, road biking, hiking, picnicking, camping, fishing, rafting, kayaking, paddle boarding, golfing, rock climbing and the list goes on.

Why beer?  We are part of a larger northwest culture that has a long standing love for craft brews. Founded in 1988, Deschutes Brewery located in Bend, led the charge to begin satisfying our thirst for a local craft beer. Now, we have around two dozen craft breweries in Central Oregon that keep us supplied with a huge variety of traditional and innovative brews. Plus, what could be better after all that recreating?

Now go grab your hiking boots or golf clubs, and go out and enjoy this amazing place we call home.
