My Backyard is a Golf Course - Living Along a Championship Golf Course

With crisp blue skies and temps in the 70s and 80s, it's easy to daydream about a day on the greens. When you live along the golf course, you don't have to dream. You can just get out there and tee off to your heart's content.

Sunriver Realty represents sellers with homes located along the fairways of four beautiful Central Oregon golf courses.

Designed by Bob Cupp and a recipient of a host of national Golf awards, Crosswater Golf Course is a heathland-style course situated on 600 scenic acres of woodlands and carefully preserved wetlands. The course features five tee placements for each hole, bent-grass fairways, and greens with the Deschutes River and Little Deschutes Rivers flowing through the community. The two rivers can come into play as many as seven times throughout the course of play. Homes in Crosswater vary in price from the low $800s to more than $1.5M. Don't forget to look for the eagle's nest at the eleventh hole.

Also designed by Bob Cupp, in cooperation with Sunriver's Jim Ramey, Caldera Links features bent-grass greens and bluegrass tees that are groomed daily by the Crosswater greens team. This 9-hole course is family friendly and is a great place to learn the game of golf. Holes range from 60 to 185 yards in length. Homes in Caldera Springs range in price from the $500s to over $1.25M.

Meadows Golf Course is acclaimed architect John Fought's latest creation. The course features tremendous variety within its 18 holes, seven of which border the meandering Sun River. Fought's design pays tribute to the great American golf courses from the 1920s and 30s with its aesthetic grace. Dramatic use of directional and fore-bunkers serve up ample challenges for golfers of all skill levels. The Meadows Golf Course near Bend, Oregon has played host to numerous USGA and NCAA golf championships, including the NCAA Men's Division I Championship
Tournament. In addition to 18 exciting holes, Meadows is also home to a popular 9-hole putting course.

Designed by internationally celebrated golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., Woodlands Golf Course features dense forests of Ponderosa and lodgepole pine, outcroppings of lava rock, and an abundance of water. Noted by golfers for superb conditioning and its beautiful setting, Woodlands Golf Course is one of the Northwest's finest championship courses.

Homes along the Woodlands and Meadows courses range in price from the $400s to more than $1M.

Sunriver Style Trends: Top Kitchen Update Trends of 2018

Kitchen Updates in Sunriver and Central Oregon

Create some space and increase organization. That is on the top of the list of 2018 kitchen updates.

According to experts at Houzz and their 2018 Kitchen Trends Study, creating space for adequate storage is one of the most important features in updating kitchens as well as the needs for space to work, play, live, entertain and clean. In locations, such as Sunriver, homeowners are gravitating toward kitchens with open space that blend with living areas as well as upgrades such as pull-out waste and recycling baskets, baking sheet organizers, drawer organizers, revolving corner trays and pull-out trays and shelves.

Countertops are also at the top of the upgrade list. Although easy-to-clean and durable granite countertops are still highly sought after, engineered quartz countertops are gaining popularity. Flooring materials that top today's list include engineered wood and laminate in addition to hardwood flooring.

The color trend of kitchens is shifting from warm woods to bright and light white. In Sunriver, many homeowners blend the two for a fresh and modern take on mountain and forest living. Don't forget about cabinet doors. Shaker-style cabinets are most popular as well as flat-panel and raised-panel doors.

Kitchen tech is also on the rise. Wireless and voice-activated appliances and devices such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home are being brought into the home.

Protecting Your Vacation Rental

Protecting your home when you are using it as a vacation rental has its challenges. Oftentimes, homeowners don't put enough time into taking steps to ensure their home will be safe in the hands of vacationers or others when the home is not occupied. But there are steps that you can take to decrease the chances that someone with bad intentions will break in, steal property, vandalize or cause damage to your home.

Suggestions for Protecting Homes through vacation rental programs like  AirBnB, VRBO or Home Away

For owners using their homes as vacation rental through services like AirBnB, VRBO or Home Away, the Bend Police Department recommends the following methods to help protect your home from break ins.

Do like the hotels do – ask for all vehicle description, color and license plate number for each vehicle that will be parked on the property.

Ask for driver's license numbers – owners can explain they have some concerns with keeping their homes secure.

Use "Do not duplicate" marked keys – makes it a little more difficult for folks to duplicate keys.

Rotate codes regularly for keyless entry – Bend Police Department recommends using alt least 4 codes

Have good photos of the house room by room - to show what is in the home in case there is a break in.

Take note that people can review occupancy calendars on many websites like AirBnB, VRBO or Home Away and have an idea when the home is not occupied.
